MAYOR BLOOMBERG KICKS OFF WEEK OF NEW YORK CITY ARTS EVENTS

Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, NYC & Company CEO George Fertitta, Armory Show Founder and Vice President Paul Morris and President of the Art Dealers Association of America Lucy Mitchell-Innes today kicked off a week of arts-related activities and events taking place in New York City from March 2 to March 7. Shows and art fairs throughout the five boroughs, including The Armory Show and The Art Show, are expected to draw more than 60,000 attendees and generate more than $40 million in economic activity in New York City. Other art shows and fairs taking place include: Volta NY, Pulse, Scope New York, Verge, Red Dot, Moving Image, Independent and Fountain. Last year, a record 48.7 million people visited New York City, and more than 20 million of them participated in a cultural activity during their stay. MAYOR BLOOMBERG APPOINTS ART CHANG TO CAMPAIGN FINANCE BOARD

Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg today appointed Art Chang to the New York City Campaign Finance Board (CFB). An independent and non-partisan agency, the Campaign Finance Board monitors City candidates' campaign contributions and expenditures, enforces the City's campaign finance law, and provides public funding to candidates who choose to participate in the City's public financing system. The Board also makes public disclosure of candidates' campaign finances, publishes a non-partisan Voter Guide for each regularly scheduled City election, and administers a mandatory debate program for candidates for citywide office who seek public funding for their campaigns. President Obama’s signature on Congress’ aggressive bill to limit the number of Americans who smoke means the battle to save millions of American lives has been joined by a newly engaged federal government. “New York City has been on the front lines of this battle for years. The City’s initially controversial smoking ban became a model for cities, states and countries across the globe. And today the federal government has adopted the truth-telling tactics we have used in anti-smoking advertisements, in which the public is shown the severe costs that smoking imposes on a person’s health and appearance. New York’s anti-smoking strategy has yielded real results.
