DISTRICT ATTORNEY VANCE ANNOUNCES CONVICTION OF LONDELL SQUIRE FOR MURDER OF PARTY BOAT PROMOTER

Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance, Jr., today announced a guilty verdict against LONDELL SQUIRE, 23, for the 2009 murder of Omar Trent, a party promoter on a boat anchored at South Street Seaport. A jury found SQUIRE guilty of Murder in the Second Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree. On May 17, 2011, SQUIRE will be sentenced in New York State Supreme Court in Manhattan. "The defendant made a calculated decision to shoot and kill Mr. Trent," District Attorney Vance said. "I commend the jury for its careful attention and service in this case." As proven at trial, on August 22, 2009, Omar Trent was at a party on a boat docked at the South Street Seaport when several fights broke out and caused many of the 400 guests to rush off the boat. SQUIRE also ran off of the boat, but went to his car to retrieve his gun. He was heading back toward the boat when he encountered Trent, whom he recognized as having been involved in the fight. ...

CFTC and SEC Staffs to Host Public Roundtable Discussion on Dodd-Frank Implementation

Washington, D.C. April 12, 2011 — The staffs of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) today announced that they intend to hold a two-day joint public roundtable on May 2-3, 2011, to discuss the schedule for implementing final rules for swaps and security-based swaps under the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act. The Dodd-Frank Act gives the CFTC and SEC certain flexibility to set effective dates and a schedule for compliance with rules implementing Title VII of the Act, which involves oversight of swaps and security-based swaps, so that market participants have time to develop the policies, procedures, systems and processes needed to comply with the new regulatory requirements. Public comments on Title VII have helped inform the Commissions as to what requirements can be met sooner and which ones will take more time. Former Employee of Non-Profit Indicted in Kickback Scheme

BOSTON—A former employee of a non-profit organization that provides support services to developmentally disabled adults was arraigned today in federal court for soliciting, demanding, and accepting kickbacks. CHARLES FEENEY, 56, of North Billerica, the former facilities director of non-profits Walnut Street Center (WSC) and Community Alternative Residential Environment, Inc. (CARE), was charged in a two-count indictment for kickbacks in connection with the renovation of a building that now serves, in part, as a day facility for disabled adults.

Steven Walter Cooke The Leader of Texas Prison/Street Gang Sentenced to 96 Months in Prison for Firearms Conviction

Steven Walter Cooke, 47, a reputed high ranking member of the Aryan Brotherhood of Texas (ABT) prison/street gang and a previously convicted felon, has been sentenced to prison for possessing firearms, Assistant Attorney General Lanny A. Breuer for the Department of Justice Criminal Division and U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Texas José Angel Moreno announced today. U.S. District Judge Gray H. Miller sentenced Cooke to 96 months in federal prison without parole and a three-year-term of supervised release following his prison term. Cooke, identified in previous court proceedings as a "general" of the ABT, pleaded guilty on Feb. 16, 2010, to one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm. Convicted felons are prohibited from possessing firearms under federal law.
