The Suffolk County Police Department Third Precinct Crime Section is investigating desecration at a Bay Shore cemetery.

Third Precinct officers responded to Oakwood Cemetery, located at 3 Moffitt Blvd., for a report of cemetery desecration. An unknown person or persons overturned a headstone and dug a hole, approximately 3 feet deep, and reached the steel encasement surrounding a casket sometime between June 4 at 3 p.m. and June 6 at 6 a.m. The casket was not damaged. The family of the deceased has been notified of this incident.
