I'm thrilled to announce the first book we'll be diving into for the New York Paralegal Blog Book Club:
This isn't your typical vampire tale. Set in the Post-Slavery South, the story follows two sisters who, born into the chains of slavery and freed by the chaos of war, are now grappling with an even more terrifying transformation. They were raised with strict, unyielding ideas of good and bad, sinful and honorable—a moral compass that is now being violently tested.
An "unquenchable thirst" is developing, threatening to consume their once timid minds and shatter their carefully constructed worldview. As they navigate this new, terrifying reality, they'll face a trial of fear, terror, and unfathomable evil. The novel promises a suspenseful and powerful narrative as the sisters must either succumb to their new nature or fight to maintain a heroic stance in a world that seems determined to strip them of all they hold dear.
I'm incredibly excited to explore the themes of morality, power, and survival in this unique and compelling story. I hope you'll join me in reading "In Lieu of Light" and discussing all the twists and turns this intriguing novel is sure to offer!
Look out for our first discussion post with my initial thoughts and some questions to get us started. Happy reading!
